I've made one step, and that is realizing that trans is not quite the right term. It's not that I feel like I'm in the wrong body, or anything on that kind of level. Genderqueer is feeling much nicer as a label goes, and I feel stronger in claiming that because I'm comfortable with where my body is. But when I identify as a "man" I feel like I'm lying. I feel like the associations/assumptions that come with that label are almost completely inaccurate and that it's best if I try to distance myself from that identity.
